The source
HWP Thal — India’s national heavy-water infrastructure
Six decades of Indian isotope-separation science. One national strategic facility. The origin of every bottle we ship.
Where our water comes from
Every bottle of Neolight Waters DDW originates at Heavy Water Plant Thal — HWP Thal — operated by the Heavy Water Board, a unit of the Department of Atomic Energy under the Government of India.
HWP Thal is one of a small number of facilities in the world with commercial-scale hydrogen-isotope-separation capability. It has produced heavy water for India’s civil nuclear reactors since the 1960s. Deuterium-depleted water is a companion product of that operation — until now used almost entirely within the Indian nuclear science community and not commercially distributed outside it.
Under a formal supply arrangement with the Heavy Water Board, in strict compliance with the Atomic Energy Act 1962 and FSSAI regulations, Neolight Waters is the licensed commercial distributor bringing this water into wellness, longevity, and clinical use.
The Chain of Traceability
Every bottle we ship is traceable through five documented steps back to the source lot at HWP Thal. This is not marketing — it is a real audit trail we maintain and can produce for any hospital, regulator, or auditor.
01 — Source
Raw DDW leaves HWP Thal with a source Certificate of Analysis issued by the Heavy Water Board recording the source deuterium concentration and the batch identifier.
02 — Receive
On receipt at our Mumbai bottling facility, source lot number, quantity, and shipping documentation are logged into our batch traceability system.
03 — Verify
Independent re-verification by isotope-ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS). Measurement uncertainty ±1.2 ppm. Result recorded against the source lot.
04 — Dilute
Precision dilution to target ppm (25, 65, 105, 125) using food-grade purified water. Post-dilution verification by second IRMS measurement. Confirmed batch to within ±2 ppm.
05 — Bottle
Bottled under FSSAI-licensed conditions in borosilicate glass with nitrogen-purged headspace and low-permeability gasket. Each bottle carries a batch reference number.
06 — Ship
Every shipment includes a Certificate of Analysis listing measured deuterium content, uncertainty, source lot number, bottling date, and operator identification.
Six Decades of Indian Isotope Science
India’s civil nuclear programme has produced heavy water since the 1960s. HWP Thal is one of several Heavy Water Board facilities across the country, each contributing to India’s self-sufficiency in nuclear-grade heavy water for the CANDU-type Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors that generate a significant share of Indian nuclear electricity.
The isotope-separation science and the industrial engineering that supports it — vacuum fractional distillation, ammonia-hydrogen exchange, precision mass spectrometry, quality assurance — represents six decades of Indian scientific and industrial expertise. Neolight Waters, in bringing DDW to commercial wellness and clinical use, builds on that expertise, not on any imported technology.
